The Spiced Cocoa Cafe by Harper Graham

This book follows Cassidy, a Christmas-loving, French-trained chocolatier who just moved to the small town of Maple Falls for a fresh start. Opening shop at the start of Christmas season, her top competition for the Light-Up Display Competition happens to be the handsome, rugged farmer who opened a shop just across the square- and also happens to hate Christmas. With a range of wonderful characters, romance in the air, a Christmas Jerk on the loose, and a dash of Christmas magic, what could go wrong?

This book fell easily into the rom-com, Christmas-in-a-small-town genre, it was a fun read with light tension, a few twists and turns, and an overarching mystery. This book is full of holiday warmth, found family, and embracing new beginnings.

I really enjoyed reading Cassidy’s character development. I think everyone at some point has felt like they were “too much” for family or a romantic partner, feeling the need to conform who they are to fit into someone else’s life. Seeing her go through the anxiety and struggles, being uncertain if she’s worth being loved exactly as she is, is a very relatable struggle.

Tropes: Small town, instant attraction, slow burn, holidays

Did the Book Pass the “One More Chapter” Test?: Yes!

Number of Emotional Roller Coasters: 1 good one!

Perfect snack pairing: Spiced hot cocoa (I need to steal her Gran-mama’s recipe!)

Character I Would Most Like to Have a Drink With: Zoe, I think we would be best friends.

Quote that perfectly sums up the main characters relationship: “You feel like home.”

Level of spice: 3/5 definitely has some spicy scenes and fantasies, but they’re brief.
