Everything She Does is Magic by Bridget Morrissey

What it’s about: Everything She Does Is Magic is an incredibly fun, witchy, and perfect for fall, cozy fantasy about a witch to be, Anya, who has now landed in the tiny town of Fableview- famous for their Halloween festivals and home to “real witches”. When Anya meets Darcy, whose family has lived here for generations, they find out what it means to bring out the best in each other, and what community means to them.

What I thought generally:

This was delightful, and perfect for Spooky Season, dripping in cozy, Halloween fun. The romance is young and sweet, surrounded by small town dramas and what it means to belong in a community. I love the parallel character growth as the characters learn to have confidence in themselves and embrace what truly matters to them.

The setting was very fun, a small town that entirely revolves around the Halloween season. The back story into the coven, how the powers work, and why certain rituals are in place added a lot of whimsy to the story.

The strength definitely comes from the variety of characters, who are on their own path to self discovery, as most of us are high schoolers beginning to enter the adult world and make life decisions. This book does not take itself too serious in themes and messages, but stays in a light and fun “rom-com” genre.

Tropes: Instant love, forced proximity, found family.

Did the Book Pass the “One More Chapter” Test? Absolutely! I could hardly put the book down! It was a little predictable but in a fun way.

Perfect snack pairing: Caramel apples, and a pumpkin spice latte

Character I Would Most Like to Have a Drink With: Definitely Grace, Darcy’s best friend. Her over the top dramatic attitude and complete confidence would make for an excellent time.

Level of spice: 1/5, very sweet romance, but we don’t get past kissing.

Unique bits I love: I love the pressure and pull from Anya having to choose a mortal “protector”, and the lore of the witches coven. Very unique!
